New Porth Parking Restrictions

January 24, 2008

A proposed “no parking” restriction is being introduced in Porth Plaza and Hannah Street car parks as of next week to encourage even more visitors to use the popular shopping destination.

The restrictions are set to take place from Monday to Friday 7.30am to 9.30am and will begin on Monday January 28th.

By removing early morning commuter parking, the Council feels that visitors to Porth will have a better chance to use the car parks that are close to the shops. This should be more attractive to visitors to the town from 9.30am onwards.

The restriction being lifted at 9.30am hours will mean that the majority of long stay parking will have already parked elsewhere.

The Order will be operational from Monday, January 28th and Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council will enforce these restrictions in the car parks on a regular basis. An excess charge of £50 will be issued if the offence of parking in breach of the restrictions.

This is consistent with the excess charge levied in other car parks within Rhondda Cynon Taf where orders controlling their use are already in place.

Vehicles displaying a disabled badge will be exempt from this order and such vehicles will be allowed to park between the hours of 7.30am and 9.30am. This is to prevent inconvenience to the disabled who arrive early to visit the shops.

Resident permits will be issued to those residents of Hannah Street, Foundry Place and No. 35 to 62 Pontypridd Road who require car parking. Residents can apply for permits from the Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, Legal Services Municipal Offices, Pentre, CF41 7BT.
