Change your future at Porth Community Carnival

February 4, 2008

A far-reaching event has been organised in a bid to engage the county’s families, tackling child poverty by returning parents to work.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s award-winning Genesis Team has joined forces with key partners to organise a community festival next month, which they hope can change lives.

Offering free transport to the venue from a number of locations, family fun and even childcare so the adults can make best use of the taster sessions on offer, it is hoped the day will show people the bright future they could have.

Key agencies such as Job Centre Plus will be present at the festival to support the eradication of child poverty by returning parents to work, overcoming challenges such as affordable childcare, training and qualification opportunities and raising awareness of how important a family focus can be.

General themes of the day include: healthy living, family and adult learning, volunteering and employment opportunities and a wide range of information and advice from organisations such as Asda, NHS Trust, the BBC Community Bus, Language and Play and more.

It will include taster sessions and even introductory driving lessons in a bid to raise awareness of just what is on offer for parents who wish to make the best for their families, via healthy living, diet and nutrition, employment and income, family focus and so on.

Cllr Annette Davies, Cabinet member for Children and Equality, said: “This event promises to offer a wide range of activities, taster sessions and advice that enables our families to be as strong and prosperous as possible.

“We all want the best for future generations and events such as this raise awareness of just how much help and advice is on offer to enable our families across the county to be the best they can be, in terms of diet, exercise, learning and developing together, employment, income and the like.

“We look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to this day and hope others remember advice is on offer throughout the year, not just on specialist days such as this.”

The Community Festival takes place from 10am on February 13 at Porth County Community School. Lunch is available from 12pm.

Free transport can be made available from all areas. For further information about the event please call the Genesis Team on 01443 744376
