Ferndale’s regeneration takes shape

February 4, 2008

Work has begun on a new car park for Ferndale, as part of the town’s ongoing regeneration.

A much-needed car park is being developed in the vacant site in Lime Street, with approximately 40 spaces to be created.

It is hoped that, when completed, the car park will ease the current congestion problems in the town and meet the needs of residents, businesses and visitors.

Ferndale is identified as a key town centre for regeneration and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council was recently successful in a bid for £1m to improve and modernise the area.

Cash secured from the Heads of the Valleys scheme has been earmarked for regeneration and residents, business people and other stakeholders have played their part in determining what the town centre needs.

One of the main concerns was traffic management and car parking, leading to the decision to use the vacant site as car parking spaces.

Cllr Annette Davies, ward member, said: “We are very pleased to see work beginning on the improvements residents have told us they wanted to see.
