Get reigned into Mayor’s Harness Parade

July 25, 2008

Horses and carriages from across the UK will be travelling to Rhondda Cynon Taf this weekend for an annual Mayoral event.

The Harnessed Horse Parade is one of the highlights of the civic calendar, providing exciting family entertainment that also raises money for the Mayor’s selected good causes.

This year is the 3rd Harnessed Horse Parade and it will take place in conjunction with the Big Bite in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.

The parade will leave the park at midday on Sunday August 3 and travel through Taff Street, Sardis Road, Gelliwastad Road and into Trallwng before returning to the park.

Horses and carriages will travel not only from across the county but also from Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. Harry Gotts will bring his horse-drawn bus from the Shire Horse Museum in Cornwall, along with the largest shire in Great Britain that was donated to the museum.

Jimmy Searle will be travelling around Rhondda Cynon Taf this week to advertise the Big Bite and the Parade with his stallions, Star and Night. If you see him, give him a wave!!

Cllr Margaret Davies, Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “Every Mayor looks forward to the Harnessed Horse Parade as one of the highlights of the calendar and I am looking forward to it very much.

“I am so grateful to Debbie and Giles Woodward for their help organising the horse parade and for supporting my charity appeal for TEDs, the British Heart Foundation and the Special Baby Care Unit.

“Special thanks also to the event and park staff of Rhondda Cynon Taf and South Wales Police for their support on the day.”
