Update on Trehofod Burst Water Mains

January 9, 2009

Bottled water is being delivered to residents in Trehafod as three water mains burst earlier today causing their water supply to be temporarily suspended.

A section of the main road through Trehafod has also been temporarily closed due to the incident.

At the outset of the incident the headteachers of both Trehopcyn Primary and Hafod Primary decided to close their schools for the rest of the day.

The stretch of carriageway between the Eirw Bridge and the A4058 Trehafod Bypass between Hopkinstown and Porth will be closed for the remainder of the day as major repair work is undertaken.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, Welsh Water and their contractors are currently on site repairing the mains so that surrounding properties will hopefully regain their water supply by late evening.

One of the burst water mains has caused the carriageway next to the Rhondda Heritage Park Hotel to be narrowed, but access for local traffic is still possible.

The other two burst mains are in the centre of Trehafod Road itself, which has caused its closure.

If you have any questions or concerns about school closures please contact your child’s school. If your concern is related to your water supply please contact Welsh Water directly 0800 052 0130.
